In the vineyard…

End of winter work and arrival of spring tasks.

The end of winter work represents a key moment when the final tasks are completed before the awakening of vegetation.Among these tasks:

  • the completion of pruning
  • chopping up pruning waste
  • applying compost fertilizer
  • soil work
  • repairs to the trellis
  • bottling

After several months of cold, the arrival of spring marks a new phase in the vine’s cycle as it begins to wake from its vegetative dormancy.

Dormancy: Last Breath of Winter

March often begins under the sign of winter, and the vine is still dormant. The canes are dry, and the roots are at rest. However, with the rise in temperatures and the lengthening of days, signs of awakening begin to appear towards the end of the month.

Sap Awakening

From the end of the month, sap begins to circulate again in the vines. This is when the buds start to swell and prepare to bloom. This process is known as “bud break,” which marks the start of the vine’s growth for the season. Although this phase is still early, it is crucial for the vine’s development and the formation of future clusters.

In the cellar…

Bottling of some 2023 vintages is being carried out.
